WILLIAMSON Parents are suing the Mingo County Board of Education after their child was injured at an elementary school.
Adam Curry and Andria Curry, the parents of Bryson Curry, claim their son was in pre-K at Lenore K-8 and was allowed to access the gymn on Aug. 29, 2018, and allowed to participate in recreational activities that were not age appropriate, according to a complaint filed in Mingo Circuit Court. ....

WEST VIRGINIA ATTORNEY GENERAL: Attorney General Morrisey Celebrates National Consumer Protection Week Across West Virginia

West Virginia Attorney General issued the following announcement on Feb. 26.
Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced his office will host various events across West Virginia aimed at consumer education and fighting fraud as part of National Consumer Protection Week 2021.
The Attorney General collaborates with the Federal Trade Commission and federal, state and local agencies, consumer groups and national organizations to raise awareness about consumer fraud issues from Sunday, Feb. 28, to Saturday, March 6.
The consumer protection events will give residents an opportunity to meet with a representative from the Attorney General s Office to discuss consumer-related issues and any potential questions.
“Our office works diligently year-round to protect consumers from fraud and scams, and during this special consumer protection week, we want to ensure consumers can have their questions and concerns addressed,” Attorney General Morrisey said. “The ....

Man sues Norfolk for being struck by a train

WILLIAMSON A Kentucky man is suing Norfolk Southern Railway Company after he was struck by a train in his vehicle.
Zachary Peterman filed the lawsuit against Norfolk, Allan Thorne and Todd Rollins alleging the parties failed to activate the train s whistle and failed to reduce speed when approaching a railroad crossing, according to a complaint filed in Mingo Circuit Court.
Peterman was operating his vehicle on Dec. 19, 2019, when he approached a railroad crossing in Naugatuck on Railroad Avenue. He claims despite taking all due care for his own safety, his vehicle was struck by a train and he was severely injured. ....

Man says lumber company damaged his property

WILLIAMSON A Lenore man is suing Coalfield Lumber Co. for negligence when removing trees from his property and damaging the property in the process.
Bryan Jude and Coalfield Lumber Co. Inc. were both named as defendants in the suit.
Freddy Copley claims the defendants removed trees from Copley s property, according to a complaint filed in Mingo Circuit Court.
Copley claims the defendants failed to clean up their mess and failed to compensate the plaintiff for the logs removed from his property. He claims they also crushed a septic tank and failed to make a house seat and essentially ruined the property. ....

Old Hospital on College Hill showcased on Travel Channel show


WILLIAMSON — A local building that has become a popular destination for paranormal tours in recent years received national attention this past week as it was featured on the season finale of the Travel Channel’s hit show “Destination Fear.”
The old building, which was formerly home to Williamson Memorial Hospital and later some independent doctor’s offices, was recently purchased by Tonya Webb and Sabrina Hatfield of Williamson with hopes of turning the building into a tourist destination.
“We are extremely excited about this new adventure and what it will mean not only to the City of Williamson but to the State of West Virginia as well,” Webb and Hatfield said in a news release. ....
