Photo: City of Hayward NEW YORK - In Hayward, California, library director Jayanti Addleman was cited for her inspiring optimism and extensive expertise during the ongoing pandemic. At Washburn University, in Topeka, Kansas, librarian Sean Bird made sure that students now taking all courses online because of the coronavirus received laptops. Addleman and Bird are among 10 winners of this year’s I Love My Librarian Awards, presented by the American Library Association and sponsored by Carnegie Corporation of New York. Each honoree receives $7,500, and a $750 donation to their library. The winners are nominated by library patrons for expertise, dedication and profound impact on their communities. ....
New CPRA Case Law and Legislation for 2021 While an expansive array of records can be sought via a California Public Records Act request, the right to inspect public records is not without limits. The CPRA does not give unlimited access to records that may be exempt from disclosure. Occasionally the public’s right of access must yield to exemptions, such as individual privacy rights and defined privileges. However, transparency remains the goal. Last year, the California Legislature and courts gave further guidance in balancing the rights of the public with those of the individual, aiming to further transparency when appropriate. The bulk of the new CPRA guidance comes from case law because most of the proposed legislation that would have affected the CPRA was sidelined by of the COVID-19 crisis. Some of the legislation that was proposed may resurface in 2021, such as Senate Bill 776, which would have significantly altered Penal Code section 832.7, subdivision (b) and e ....
Hays Daily News It will probably be March or April before there’s widespread distribution in Ellis County of the COVID-19 vaccine. “Kansas will receive around 24- to 25,000 of the doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and around the 22nd, maybe 16,000 of the Moderna,” said Ellis County Health Director Jason Kennedy. “Those numbers obviously don’t go far when you look at the population of Kansas. However it is a bright spot that it is moving forward.” In an update Monday to the Ellis County Commissioners at their regular meeting in the Ellis County Administrative Center, 718 Main, Kennedy mentioned that the first dose of the vaccine was given in Kansas on Monday.
