Pallet homes fine where they are, says RB council

The Redondo Beach City Council voted Tuesday night to keep the pallet homes, which currently houses formerly unhoused people, where it is on Kingsdale Ave. in North Redondo Beach.
The pallet homes opened in December of last year thanks to pandemic-related relief funding. The plan proposed last October was for them to remain in North Redondo for six months, and then to discuss an extension or relocation. There was some back-and-forth about the northern and southern parts of Redondo Beach sharing the responsibility of hosting the portable housing units. ....

Redondo Beach extends Pallet shelter, homeless court program

The decision to extend the programs, on a combined vote this week, also included a review of both initiatives, during which Redondo Beach revealed the results of its first independent count of those living on the streets.
Los Angeles County has spent years trying to solve its homeless crisis by building shelters and investing in various services, such as job training and mental health care, to help people get and stay off the streets. It also annually counts the number of folks living on the streets or in shelters, which in 2020 was about 66,400 people. ....

Newly elected Redondo Beach District 4 City Councilman Zein Obagi Jr. made good on his campaign promise to spur progress on the Artesia and Aviation Corridors Area Plan (AACAP) by voting to approve two AACP contracts during his first city council meeting Tuesday night.
The agreements with Rincon Consultants Inc. total $137,556, and will pay for preparation of documents for an environmental review of zoning and parking issues in the corridors area, and for recommended revisions to current parking regulations. ....

Residents began moving into the Beach Cities’ first ever temporary shelter for unhoused people in the early morning hours of December 28, just over a month after it was approved and barely in time to qualify for the coronavirus-related relief funding necessary to pay for it.
The shelter located off Kingsdale Avenue is being run by the City of Redondo Beach in collaboration with Harbor Interfaith, a nonprofit in San Pedro dedicated to helping the homeless get off the streets and into permanent housing. ....
