Editor s note: The year 2020 has been different, to say the least. As such, we decided to do our annual Year in Review a bit differently as well. This year provided some big issues, some less-than-pleasant news and some positive highlights sprinkled in between. While it isn’t our goal to remind you of the bad times, we wanted to use this opportunity as a final door-closing to 2020 and celebrate optimistic expectations for 2021. The year 2020 started off with incumbents sweeping the March primaries in Parker County. Sheriff Larry Fowler moved on to the Nov. 3 election to face off against Libertarian Russell Hess after defeating three challengers in the primaries. Residents stepped up and stepped out to make their voices heard, and the early voting turnout surpassed that of 2016’s early voting numbers. ....

Parker County locations set to receive COVID-19 vaccine

The Texas Department of State Health Services rolled out its Week 2 recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine, which includes six locations in Parker County.
“Texas expects to receive 620,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccine distributed to more than 1,100 providers in 185 Texas counties in Week 2 of vaccine distribution,” according to DSHS. “The [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] will deliver 460,500 doses of the vaccine manufactured by Moderna and 159,900 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to continue to vaccinate front-line health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities.” ....

State publishes first schedule for vaccinations; Parker, Palo Pinto counties not yet included

The Texas Department of State Health Services has published “Week 1” of its COVID-19 vaccine allocations, but as of that date, Parker and Palo Pinto counties have not made the list. 
The first week’s allocation is 224,250 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to be shipped to 109 hospitals in 34 counties as early as the week of Dec. 14, depending on when the vaccine is authorized for use in the United States, according to the Department of State Health Services.
The distribution of the vaccine in Texas is being determined by the COVID-19 Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel. The allocations should be updated moving forward, Parker County Health Authority Dr. Steven Welch said, adding that there is still no firm date as to when “Week 1” is.  ....
