Feds: Purported NJ Gang Members Indicted On Murder, Attempted Murder Charges

Three purported members of the Rollin 60s Neighborhood Crips gang were indicted on charges of murder and attempted murder Wednesday, federal officials said.
Elijah Williams, aka “Lil Smith,” 21; Jason Franklin, aka “Freak,” aka “OG Freak,” 37; and Tre Byrd, aka “Bands,” aka “G Bandz,” 20 all of Newark were charged by indictment with Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said.
Williams is accused of shooting four individuals and hitting two in Newark on Sept. 25, 2018, authorities said. Both victims survived the attack.
Then, on March 20, 2019, Williams shot and killed another victim with help from Franklin and Byrd in Irvington, according to court documents. ....

Mercer County man, 34, killed in Newark shooting, police say

Authorities on Wednesday identified the man killed in a Newark shooting as a 34-year-old from Mercer County.
Anthony M. McGriff, of Lawrenceville, was shot around 4:20 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of Prince Street in Newark’s Central Ward, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. McGriff died a short time later at an area hospital, authorities said.
There were no arrests as the prosecutor’s office’s Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force continued to investigate, Acting Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said in a joint statement. ....

Essex County Prosecutor's Office Invites High School Juniors to Apply for Summer Internship Program

Newark, NJ – Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is looking for high school juniors to participate in its annual summer internship program. This exciting three-week program, designed to expose high school students to careers in law, law enforcement and government, will be held virtually again this year.
“Even though we are dealing with a global pandemic, we believe it is important to keep young people engaged during the summer. Last year, we were able to continue our annual internship program and we plan to do so again this year,” said Acting Prosecutor Theodore Stephens.
“While the students will not be able to take part in the traditional activities, we believe our virtual program remains an exciting opportunity to expose students to our office, careers in law enforcement and information about the operation of government. Ricky Terrell, 24, of Newark, pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Court Judge John Michael Vazquez to an information charging him with one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, specifically, the possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine.
