Friends of the Public Library sales to resume

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The Friends of the Public Library will resume their monthly Saturday book sales that were halted during pandemic.
The sales will be held at the Main Library, located at 501 Copper NW, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Saturday, Aug. 14.
Subsequent sales will be held on the second Saturday of each month.
Volunteers and staff members will be wearing face masks, and the group strongly urges shoppers to do likewise.
The sales will feature books, CDs and DVDs. There is a $2 entry fee, but Friends of the Public Library members can enter free with their membership cards. ....

On Thursday, Jun. 3, at 7:00 p.m., the Friends of the Public Library will offer a presentation called Connecticut Pirates & Privateers with Wick Griswold that details the swashbuckling stories of Captain Kidd, Blackbeard and other corsairs who frequented the waters, inlets and islands of Connecticut.

OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg Mayor Jeffrey M. Skelly says he plans to vote against the library budget proposition in May, but says he will ensure the library stays open regardless of the outcome.
The mayor has come under criticism from the public for not supporting the library’s attempt to secure an additional $225,000 through a proposition attached to the school budget. The mayor says his problem isn’t with the library itself, but how it’s been managed.
If the proposition fails, the mayor says he will ask the executive director and all members of the library board to resign. If it passes, he says that means people have made their choice to support the library’s current direction. ....

Editorial — Ogdensburg Journal: Vote yes on library referendum

Itâs hard to imagine Ogdensburg without its historic library at 312 Washington St. However, if a referendum attached to the school budget vote fails then it may result in the libraryâs eventual closure.
This comes after the city of Ogdensburg has told the libraryâs Board of Trustees that it will no longer fund it in the future, that this year would be its last year of financial support. The cityâs contributions to the library have dwindled over the years due to its own financial hardships. In 2018, the amount was $453,625. This current fiscal year it was dropped to $162,000. In 2022, there will be nothing. ....
