Riverheads wins unprecedented fifth-consecutive Class 1 state championship Riverheads beats Galax 65-29 to win 5th consecutive state championship By Mike Shiers | May 1, 2021 at 6:08 PM EDT - Updated May 1 at 9:39 PM CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Riverheads football team made history on their home field on Saturday, as the Gladiators beat Galax 65-29 in the Class 1 state championship game. The victory gives Riverheads its record-breaking fifth-consecutive state title, and the 8th in program history. The Gladiators are the first team to win more than four-consecutive VHSL state championships in football. Senior Zac Smiley says, “It’s great. It’s really special. Senior year, it’s the last time you get to play. Get to play on your home field. I couldn’t have asked for it to be any better. We got to go out and have a good game. Everybody played like we wanted to. I’m beyond happy. I’m blessed.” ....

Police beat Bicycle steal – Charlton Esplanade, Pialba Between 10pm on April 15 and 6am on April 16 unknown offenders have stolen a black mountain bike from underneath a camper trailer. Bicycle steal – Charlton Esplanade, Torquay Between 11pm on April 16 and 5am on April 17 unknown offenders have stolen a black mountain bike from the location. Bicycle steal – Cartwright Drive, Urangan Between 9am and 2.10pm on April 17 unknown offenders have used bolt cutters to cut the lock and steal a Giant mountain bike, black and red in colour. ....

Maryborough Dawn Service is at 5:30am at the Maryborough Cenotaph, Queens Park. The Anzac Day march will leave the Maryborough RSL in Lennox Street at 8.50am for the main 9.30am service at the Cenotaph. The Maryborough march will include community groups and schools alongside service personnel and ex-service personnel. Hervey Bay The dawn service commences 5:15am Freedom Park, Main Street, Pialba. The Hervey Bay march leaves the RSL at 10am for the main service at 10:30am at Freedom Park. ....
Premium Content Subscriber only The next stage of a boat ramp carpark upgrade will start this month, adding 68 new carparking spaces for boaters, just before the winter tourist season kicks in. Stage two of the $1.5 million project, funded by both the Queensland Government and Fraser Coast Regional Council, follows stage one, where 13 carpark spaces were added next to the River Heads boat ramp. It also comes after a combined investment of $1.59 million worth of works to the River Heads boat ramp carpark, by the State Government and Fraser Coast Regional Council, happened only two years ago. In the second stage of River Heads boat ramp upgrades, 68 carpark spaces will be added, with the works expected to take about three and a half months to complete. ....
