Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says that five additional states and territories have joined its lawsuit against Google, which alleges antitrust violations and deceptive acts by the technology behemoth.
Attorneys general from Alaska, Florida, Montana, Nevada, and Puerto Rico joined the multistate lawsuit, led by Texas, that originally was filed by a coalition of 10 states. Paxton’s office filed an amended complaint (pdf) on March 16, reflecting the changes.
“Today’s filing underscores the broad consensus that Google’s practices require review and swift action under antitrust and consumer protection laws,” Paxton said in a statement. ....

More U.S. states join Texas-led antitrust lawsuit against Google

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Four more states have joined a lawsuit filed by Texas and others against Alphabet Inc s Google that accuses it of breaking antitrust laws to boost its already dominant advertising business, the Texas attorney general said on Tuesday.
Joining the lawsuit filed in December are Alaska, Florida, Montana, Nevada and Puerto Rico, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said. This brings the number of plaintiffs in the lawsuit to 15 states and territories.
The lawsuit was one of three filed last year by the federal government or states against Google.
In announcing Tuesday s amended complaint, Paxton and the other attorneys general also divulged details about Google s relationship with Facebook Inc. ....

Apple will face a French antitrust probe into its upcoming App Tracking Transparency feature, following a complaint from advertisers in the country that the planned changes are anticompetitive.
Starting in iOS 14.5, Apple will require apps to get opt-in permission from users to collect their random advertising identifier, which advertisers use to deliver personalized ads and track how effective their campaigns were.
In light of the planned changes, a group of advertising companies and publishers filed a complaint in France last year alleging that the wording of Apple s permission prompt will lead most users to decline tracking of their device s advertising identifier, which could result in lost revenue. ....

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is expanding the scope of his multi-state antitrust lawsuit against Google to include the tech giant’s planned overhaul of its use of website usage tracking technology known as “cookies.”
Four additional states and Puerto Rico have also joined Paxton’s lawsuit against the tech giant, which alleges Google maintains a monopoly in the digital ads market.
