BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — There has been a significant spike in the number of attempted suicides by teenage girls in the United States.

According to a study by the CDC, there was a 51-percent increase of emergency room visits for teenage girls ages 12 to 17. That was for February and March of this year compared to the same time frame in 2019.
“Unfortunately, it's not surprising — as terrible as that sounds,” stated Krysta Broeker, suicide prevention project coordinator, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

Man, 19, stabbed to death during fight in Niagara Falls


Police say a 19-year-old man was stabbed Thursday night and died at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Niagara Falls Police are investigating after a man was stabbed to death during a fight Thursday night.
A City of Niagara Falls spokesperson says police responded to reports of a large group fight in the area of 16th Street and Weston Avenue around 10 p.m.
When officers arrived, the fight was over, but they saw a man who had been stabbed laying on the ground.
An AMR ambulance crew and the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to the scene. They treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center where he later died.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) — After a 43-day battle with COVID-19, Francine Shelton is finally coming home.
Family, friends, and staff at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center celebrated Shelton's release Saturday morning.
Shelton spent that time in the Intensive Care Unit at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
Most of that time, Shelton was on a ventilator.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The winter weather created a delay in delivering doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
Because of that, the hospital has to cancel Wednesday's COVID-19 vaccine clinic.
The medical center will contact patients to let them know the February 17 clinic, which was scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., is canceled as a result of the vaccine delivery delay.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — As New York state continues to make efforts to get more people vaccinated against the coronavirus, 35 pop-up vaccination clinics have been set up, including some in Western New York.
At a clinic in Niagara Falls, there are questions about two elected officials getting the shot ahead of others.
"We're trying to reach the Black and brown community those that are underserved," said Lucy Candelario, the executive director of The Belle Center.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced 35 community-based pop-up vaccination sites coming online this week at churches, community centers, public housing complexes and cultural centers. These sites are expected to vaccinate over 25,000 people throughout the week, with more sites coming online every week. Since January 15, the deployment of these kits have enabled nearly 9,000 New Yorkers to receive their first COVID-19 vaccine dose that these community-based pop up sites. As has been the case with previous pop-up sites, these sites will be re-established in three weeks to administer second doses.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — In January, Talia Kalisiak, 20, from North Tonawanda was released from Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. 
She had spent nearly a month in a coma while there. Once she was cleared to leave, she went to Kenmore Mercy Hospital to recover.
Wednesday, she finally went home in a special send off from the rehab center. 
"I've been trying to move forward, look forward, just gain the strength back because I lost all of it," Talia Kalisiak said.
