KNOXVILLE, Tennessee The city is on track to break the record of deadly shooting victims, according to data from the Knoxville Police Department.
KPD statistics show 28 people have died so far this year, 5 less than the record which was set last year. In 2020 there were 33 fatal shooting victims, the highest number since KPD started tracking them in 1990.
On Wednesday, police said they pronounced another person dead from a shooting Martaysha Flack, 20. They said she was dead on the scene when they arrived. One other person was shot and taken to the UT Medical Center.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Knoxville leaders are standing together to empower community members to support families and prevent violence in East Knoxville.
The United Way of Greater Knoxville announced a new fund to provide resources to the East Knoxville community after several teens lost their lives due to gun violence. The funds will be used to support nonprofit organizations directed by Black communities and people of color working to interrupt cycles of violence and enrich families.

Tailgating Against Cancer’s 10th Annual Golf Tournament raises funds for the Stephen Y. Coleman Fellowship in Medical Oncology
KNOXVILLE, TENN. (April 30, 2021) – Tailgating Against Cancer is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for a fellowship in medical oncology with The University of Tennessee Medical Center’s Cancer Institute and the UT Graduate School of Medicine. On Friday, May 14, they will host their 10th Annual Tailgating Against Cancer Golf Tournament at Egwani Farms Golf Course. Founded in memory of Stephen York Coleman, Tailgating Against Cancer finds inspiration in supporting other cancer patients, their families and physicians who take on the battle against cancer.
