Production costs at Marlborough’s Nautilus Estate were around 10 per cent to 15 per cent higher this year, with limited opportunities to pass on the cost, winemaker and general manager Clive Jones said.
“That depends on your relationship with your distributor or whether there is an opportunity to push through a price increase. Profits will be down. That has an impact on capital expenditure on vineyards and less opportunity to be buying new equipment and things like that.”
The whole industry was facing increased production costs, and ongoing labour shortages due to border closures had added pressure. At the same time, there had been “unprecedented demand” from export markets including Britain, the United States and Australia. ....

The taste will make your uncle happy and you’ll be supporting a local Kiwi brewery in the process.
How to please your grumpy Uncle DB
We all have that person in our life who won’t be budged from their DB-Lion Red-Speight’s-Tui armchair. Well a good way to lead your grumpy granddad or intractable uncle to try a craft beer is to order some Taranaki Amber from Shining Peak.
The relatively young Naki brewery created this as a tribute to those mainstream beers and sponsored the Taranaki rugby team while they were at it.
