Driven by persistent shortages of homes for sale coupled with low mortgage rates luring more buyers into the market the median home price in the region rose to a record $750,000 in June, according to data released Tuesday from CoreLogic/DQNews. That’s up from the previous record of $725,000, which was set in May. A year ago, the median price the point where half of all homes sold for more and half sold for less was $600,500. “As soon as anything comes on the market, right way within 48 hours, you start getting offers, usually multiple offers that go into overbid,” said Cindy Waasdorp, a real estate agent with Berkshire Hathaway who has been selling in North County for more than three decades. “I don’t see it slowing down until we get inventory. Print San Diego State University is seeking to shave hundreds of millions of dollars off development costs associated with the office portion of its planned Mission Valley campus. The school, through a formal solicitation process, is currently in search of an architectural firm to come up with alternative designs for what’s being referred to as the “Innovation District,” or the area of the 135-acre site reserved for office, research and educational uses. Bidders are being asked to reconfigure the layout of 13 buildings and 5,000 parking spaces located south of the in-progress Aztec Stadium, as the institution believes the buildings no longer require a parking platform to lift them out of the site’s floodplain. ....

Real estate analyst CoreLogic said the price of a single-family home in the county will increase 8.3 percent from November 2020 to November 2021. That means the median price of house could be around $776,000 by the end of the year. CoreLogic said the main reason is a lack of homes for sale that will push up prices as buyers fight it out. A secondary factor is income growth for highly skilled positions in San Diego County. ....
