Could paid parking be on the cards for Lennox Head?
Yesterday’s Ballina Shire Council meeting saw councillors raise the spectre of paid parking at Lennox Head, and possibly elsewhere in the shire.
During a discussion about fees and charges, Cr Nathan Willis began musing on the lack of prospective earnings for the future, despite all the extra ratepayers flooding into Ballina and surrounds. Was it time to consider a report looking at the possibility pay parking in Lennox Head, he wondered?

A motion to extend the number of people that could access South Ballina beach has been rejected by Ballina Shire Council.
Secured vehicle access points using lock and key will be maintained for emergency services, commercial fishers, Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council and Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation at Richmond Nature Reserve (NPWS), Patchs Beach (Ballina Shire Council) and Boundary Creek (Richmond Valley Council).
The original motion, raised by councillor Keith Williams, was hoping to thank the NSW Minister for Crown Land, Melinda Pavey, for acting to reduce risk to beach users and limit ongoing environmental degradation to South Ballina Beach. ....

Council to explore paid parking at Lennox Head

Ballina Shire council has agreed to discuss the idea of paid parking for Lennox Head.
In their regular monthly meeting, council agreed to request a report from staff on the alternatives on installation of paid parking in Lennox Head.
If paid parking was not deemed the right solution, the report will also look into smart sensors for improved parking management.
Any additional revenue generated by this would have to be used to assist in increased resources and increased capital infrastructure renewal within the shire.
A possible future policy will also have to contain a clause that exempts residents of Ballina Shire from payment. ....

The 130th New London High School Alumni Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, June 19 in the school cafetorium.
Last year’s get-together was canceled because of COVID, and this year’s will be a modified version with honored class pictures taken outdoors at 5 p.m., doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and the opening ceremony starting at 6 p.m. Dinner, provided by Catering By Design, will be served at 6:30 p.m. for $19.
Four $750 scholarships will be awarded to members of the Class of 2021 and money received over and above the cost of the meal will go into the scholarship fund. ....
