My haven, Emma Bridgewater, 58, in the kitchen of her home on the Norfolk coast

1. Industrious family
My great-grandparents owned coal mines in Ashington, Northumberland. I love this painting that my great-grandmother bought by one of the Ashington Group, known as the Pitmen Painters. They were mine workers with no formal art training who painted everyday life as they saw it around them. My father’s side owned a boiler-making factory in Wakefield. Maybe starting a pottery works was in my genes.
2. Sister act
My mother Charlotte (left) and her younger sister Theresa adored each other’s company. They were generous, hospitable and great entertainers
It fills me with happiness thinking of my mother Charlotte and her younger sister Theresa shrieking with laughter. That’s Mum on the left in the photo. Two wonderful women who adored each other’s company, they were generous, hospitable and great entertainers. Mum was severely brain-damaged after falling from her horse in 1991, when she was 52; she never recovered but lived on for 22 years. I’m one of eight children – from my parents’ several marriages – and we all adore each other.

A district councillor is confident police are helping to combat ongoing anti-social behaviour which has been described as "abhorrent" at a village church on the outskirts of Norwich.
Access to All Saints Church in Rackheath and the adjoining layby has been restricted for years amid complaints about people meeting for sex at the site.
A locked gate had been put across a country lane leading to the church last summer. It was installed by the landowner to restrict access.
Broadland councillor Fran Whymark, who lives in the village, said local beat manager PC Steve Clarke has been very proactive with the ongoing problem, which previously caused distress for those visiting graves.

Survey plan outlined for historic village church following coronavirus grant

Survey plan outlined for historic village church following coronavirus grant
Published: 17:00, 03 March 2021
A detailed study of the condition of a West Norfolk parish church's tower and spire will take place this spring, thanks to the allocation of a coronavirus support grant.
Officials from the All Saints' Church in North Runcton have announced plans for the survey, which is to be financed with more than £15,000 from the Culture Recovery Fund.
And they have also welcomed the grant which they say will help their efforts to extend community activities there.

The new survey is expected to begin in May. Officials say the churchyard will be closed during that period.

Network Norfolk : Trust welcomes extension to VAT tax concession for further year

Trust welcomes extension to VAT tax concession
Norfolk Churches Trust has warmly welcomed an extension to a VAT tax concession until March 2022.
There had been growing fears that the 20-year VAT relief under the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme would end on March 31.
Peter Sheppard, chairman of the Norfolk Churches Trust, said that the one-year extension was welcome news. “This is great news for churches, and I know that those facing major repairs will be relieved,” he added.
The Round Tower Churches Society had also voiced concern because it would have added to the cost of repairs and conservation. The chancellor,

An extension to a VAT tax “concession” until March 2022 has been warmly welcomed by Norfolk Churches Trust.
There have been growing fears that the 20-year VAT relief under the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme would end on March 31.
But on Wednesday, Nigel Huddleston MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the department of Culture, Media and Sport, revealed in Parliament that it would continue on the same terms.
Peter Sheppard, chairman of the Norfolk Churches Trust, said that the one-year extension was welcome news.
“This is great news for churches and I know that those facing major repairs will be relieved,” he said.

Network Norfolk : Covid-19 emergency grants to 28 Norfolk churches

Covid-19 emergency grants to 28 Norfolk churches
Emergency repair grants of more than half a million pounds have been awarded to 28 historic churches in Norfolk.
The 28 Norfolk churches will share £513,000 from Historic England’s Covid-19 emergency heritage at risk response fund. The funds will enable repairs, conservation and investigative surveys to be carried out as soon as possible.

The Historic England grant applications were processed in double-quick time, said a delighted Mid-Norfolk church architect Ruth Blackman.  “It has been a terrific scheme and Historic England’s team has really helped to enable urgent work to be carried out,” she added.

Six Norfolk churches have received the maximum £25,000 – and four have been awarded £24,000 or more. Two of the churches, St Peter & St Paul, Watlington, near King’s Lynn and St Peter, Forncett, near Long Stratton, were added to Historic England’s heritage at risk register late last year.  Other churches receiving the fund’s maximum £25,000 grant are St Martin, Fincham, near Downham Market; St Andrew, Little Massingham; St George’s Gooderstone, and St Michael & All Angels, Didlington.
