Local first graders book wins honor

Efforts by a Cedarville Elementary School teacher to build confidence in her first graders culminated with a prize in a nationwide contest rewarding student-authored books.
Studentreasures Publishing honored “Super Special Me!” by Karen Augustine s class as a Top 50 book in the 2020-21 National Book Challenge, according to a news release.
The contest was open to more than 60,290 books submitted to Studentreasures for free publishing this past academic year, the release said. Finalists were selected based on originality, storyline and illustrations.
Augustine described their book as a precious keepsake. The students were inspired by how they see themselves and what they want to be when they grow up, the release said. ....

Area students wildlife paintings honored

Bellmont Middle School eighth graders earned state-level accolades with their wildlife watercolor paintings in Wildlife Forever s Fish Art Contest and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Junior Duck Stamp Contest, according to a news release.
Their accomplishments are more impressive considering they are beginner watercolor wildlife painters who use kindergarten paint sets, the release said. It noted the students learn about conservation, specie biomes, anatomy and mixing and lay ....

Marvel's Young Avengers: Alex A.J. Gardner cast as Iron Lad

A few weeks after his confirmation of the role to The Greenville News, Gardner backtracked on his Twitter account. I’m in rumors now haha?! Can’t confirm or deny anything though. he tweeted in response to an online article speculating on his casting.
This would be Gardner s first major role, he said.
It s obviously that kind of role that can really change your life, Gardner, who now lives in Arizona, said.
While details are scarce, Gardner said the production is months or even years away, but he has already begun working out to prepare for the role.

J.R. Ankenbruck, Lincoln Elementary Principal
John R. (J.R.) Ankenbruck joined FWCS in 2003 as a Title I resource teacher at Geyer Middle School after beginning his career in Indianapolis. In 2004, he moved to Kekionga Middle School as a social studies teacher, and in 2006, he served as an administrative intern at Miami Middle School followed by positions as assistant principal at Franke Park Elementary and then Croninger Elementary. He became principal of Washington Elementary in 2010, and in 2014, he moved to principal at Holland Elementary. At Lincoln, he replaces Claire Paul, who is moving to Whitney Young Early Childhood Center.
