It took 17 days for the Education Department to be notified and to send out a clean-up crew after contractors disturbed asbestos while installing airconditioning at a Brisbane school.
The incident was among 19 asbestos “exposure incidents” at Queensland schools during the installation of airconditioning under the government’s Cooler Schools program since 2019.
Education officials faced a grilling about asbestos removal at Sunnybank State High School during budget estimates.

On November 9, at 6.35am, airconditioning contractors disturbed asbestos at Sunnybank State High School but a professional crew was not sent to the school for testing, and to clean up more than 30 rooms, until November 26, 17 days later. ....

Harmony Week gets under way in Bundaberg – Bundaberg Now


Bundaberg and District Neighbourhood Centre s Corrie McColl, Dianne Hicks and Maggie Xu are ready for Harmony Week.
The region s rich multicultural heritage will be celebrated at two Bundaberg and District Neighbourhood Centre Harmony Week events this week.
The region’s population is growing increasingly diverse and this development will be reflected in cultural events, honouring Harmony Week, to be hosted at the Bundaberg Neighbourhood Centre today and the Windmill Café Bargara on Saturday.
Corrie McColl, Bundaberg and District Neighbourhood Centre manager, said this week’s events were designed to reflect the goals of Harmony Week.
“Harmony Week was originally Harmony Day, and it was started in 1999 to, in short, create increased awareness about the social inclusion of people from different cultures and countries in Australia,” he said. ....
