“Over the years it’s been really clear in our community there’s a great need for mental health services,” Nancy Heinrichs, executive director of NorWest Co-op Community Health said in a press conference on Monday. “The demand continues to grow. We’ve experienced a 500% increase in requests for mental health counselling from January 2020 to March 2021. The main presenting problems of people walking through our door, or recently onto our screen, are around anxiety and depression.”

Pop-up clinic in Winnipeg mistakenly hands out AstraZeneca vaccine doses instead of Moderna

WINNIPEG --
A group of Winnipeggers who believed they had been given a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine are now finding out they might have been immunized with an AstraZeneca dose by mistake.
For her first shot, Terry Rogowsky had received a Pfizer dose but opted to get a Moderna dose for her second shot due to the limited number of Pfizer doses available.
That is what brought Rogowsky, her husband, her son and a few of her co-workers to the pop-up clinic at the Weston Memorial Community Centre run by NorWest Co-op Community Health on June 24 – to roll up their sleeves and get a shot of what they were told was the Moderna vaccine.

Community group offers counter to vaccine 'misinformation'

WINNIPEG --
A community group in Winnipeg’s North End is launching a new campaign aimed at fighting what it calls vaccine “misinformation.”
Michelle Kirkbride of Norwest Co-op Community Health said COVID-19 cannot be controlled if vaccines don’t get into people’s arms.
She said having the right information helps those deciding whether to be vaccinated make an informed decision.
“We’re not going to necessarily change people’s minds from being anti-vax to being pro-vaccine all of a sudden. We’re really looking at people who might be vaccine-hesitant,” Kirkbride said.
Kirkbride said people may be hesitant because they aren’t sure whether information that is widely available online is from a credible source.
