Manitoba builds on mental health services by developing five-year action plan

The action plan, touted by the province as shaping priorities and setting direction, will focus on five key areas, including evidence-based, data-driven services, service access and co-ordination, substance use and recovery, population health and wellness and service governance and accountability.

“Over the years it’s been really clear in our community there’s a great need for mental health services,” Nancy Heinrichs, executive director of NorWest Co-op Community Health said in a press conference on Monday. “The demand continues to grow. We’ve experienced a 500% increase in requests for mental health counselling from January 2020 to March 2021. The main presenting problems of people walking through our door, or recently onto our screen, are around anxiety and depression.”

Province to provide $2.5M to house, support 250 Winnipeggers experiencing homelessness

The Manitoba Non-Profit Housing Association is getting more than $2.5 million in provincial funding for projects to help Winnipeggers who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, get stable housing and wraparound services.
The funding, announced by the province Tuesday, will go toward providing stable housing and services for 250 individuals. Those services could include addictions treatment, mental health treatment, emergency meal services, reconnections to family and other social supports, and referrals for education upgrades or employment.

Saskatchewan's addiction crisis needs awareness

General signs of addiction are lack of control or inability to stay away from a substance or behaviour, decreased socialization, such as abandoning commitments or ignoring relationships and ignoring risk factors, like sharing needles despite potential consequences.
One can be addicted to many things such as gambling, chocolate, sex, the internet, shopping, food, work tattoos, alcohol or drugs just to name a few.
A statement was provided by the province’s Official Opposition Critic for Mental Health and Addictions Doyle Vermette.
With the shocking news that Saskatchewan saw more than one overdose death per day in the month of January, the NDP Critic for Mental Health and Addictions Doyle Vermette released the following statement:
