Pupils at one Ilkley primary school were welcomed back on Monday with a lovely surprise. The Friends of Ashlands Primary School generously organised rainbow balloon arches over each entrance which brought a smile to everyone who walked through the gates of the Leeds Road school - children, parents and staff alike. Nicola Holmes, Chair of Friends, said: “It has been a challenging time for everyone but the rainbow is a symbol of hope and of unity. “Both the school and Friends of Ashlands wanted to make a lasting memory of the return to school for the children and send a message to the wider school community that we are in this together.”

FRIENDS of Ashlands, the PTA of Ashlands Primary School in Ilkley, has initiated a project to develop trails in and around the town. The first trail based around “The Three Bridges” will be released this month with five further trails to be developed throughout 2021. Each trail will differ in its location and theme which will be seasonally linked but with nature always at the heart. Nicola Holmes, Chair of Friends of Ashlands said: “We love exploring our local area so wanted to develop these trails to give families a purpose for theirs walks and to provide information and inspiration along the way. Ashlands is proud to play an active role in the community with a focus on the environment. Last year’s Wildflower Meadow project on Leeds Road was well received and so we hope this year local families enjoy following these trails. Thanks to Ilkley Town Council for their support in funding this project.”
