New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Thursday directed 17 lenders, banks and financial institutions to explain the share sale by Fortis Healthcare s former promoters Malvinder Singh and Shivinder Singh.

J&K Told To Accelerate Recruitment Process

Srinagar: The Centre has informed the department-related parliamentary standing committee on Ministry of Home Affairs that the government of Jammu & Kashmir has been asked to undertake the process of recruitment in an accelerated manner.
In its action taken report submitted on the panel s earlier recommendations for fast-tracking recruitment process in J & K UT, the Ministry of Home Affairs has apprised the panel that the government of Jammu and Kashmir has been asked to assess the requirement of manpower and undertake the process of recruitment in an accelerated manner.
It has also informed the panel that domicile has been made a basic eligibility for an appointment to any post under the Union Territory of J & K or under a local or other authority (other than Cantonment Board) within the UT of J & K. ....

The last protester fighting to save a century-old tree in Auckland has been arrested and removed from the site by police.
A tearful Caleb Azor, 18, was helped down out of the macrocarpa about 11.30am.
A witness at the scene told the Herald police officers climbed up to where the teenager was and spoke to him for some time.
They haven t forcibly pulled him out - he walked down the ladder himself - but he was crying. ....

The cause of a fire that ripped through an Ahipara home leaving little more than a rear wall standing was arson, Fire and Emergency New Zealand says. Fire investigator Craig Bain confirmed the fire, which started inside the Kaka St house on the lower level, was deliberately lit on Thursday. Bain said their inquiries were ongoing. The alarm was raised at 3.28am and fire brigades from Ahipara, Kaitaia, and Whangarei controlled the blaze as well as protected two neighbouring properties that were threatened at the height of the blaze. No one was home at the time of the fire. It was the seventh serious house fire in the Far North in the past two months. ....
