EFMB events are the utmost test of professional competence and physical endurance of the Soldier medic. The test comprises 144 hours of continuous operational events that test the mental and physical stamina as well as tactical and technical skills of medical Soldiers. The badge is considered a “portrait of excellence” in Army medicine and is the most sought-after peacetime award in the Army Medical community.
One of seven opportunities offered Army-wide in 2021, this is the first time the Army Reserve has hosted an EFMB event.
“This is the pinnacle of demonstrated training to standard set for Army Medicine. And, therefore, it means a lot.” said Maj. Gen. Jonathan Woodson, Commanding General of the Army Reserve Medical Command. “It means that you’ve taken the time to train, you’ve taken the time to go to the field and demonstrate those competencies.” ....

Army Reserve soldiers take part in rigorous training, testing to earn Expert Field Medical Badge

They are there to earn their “Expert Field Medical Badge.”
There are more than a dozen requirements soldiers need to accomplish, some of which are done under simulated combats.
They are working through a number of realistic scenarios, including handling casualties and medical care while under fire, evacuations, and efficient communication.
Following hands-on training, the soldiers have to complete a rigorous test; and it’s far from easy.
Only a small majority earn the badge on their first try.
“In a very short period of time, we have to master tasks,” said First Lt. Molly French. “All the candidates have been waking up at the crack of dawn and studying until the sunset, and even sometimes in their tents with their red lens on trying to study as much as possible so we can earn this ....

CFK's Carla Fry has waged war on COVID-19


Carla Fry will be the first to say that most of her success has come from her military training.
Fry is a former U.S. Army medic and sergeant and is the director of Nursing and Health Sciences programs at The College of the Florida Keys. The school organized more than 32 mass COVID-19 vaccination events and vaccinated 20,000 people since the vaccinations made their way to the Florida Keys, Fry said.
The college formed a partnership with the local offices of the Florida Department of Health in January, after Fry and the nursing students worked closely with Baptist Health South nurses and doctors at the health group’s medical facility in Ocean Reef while the students were off for the winter break. ....
