NEWBURGH, Ind. (WFIE) - A very special birthday celebration was held on Saturday for one Newburgh woman.
One year ago, 14 News was in attendance to help
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Miller’s birthday last year was celebrated through the window of the assisted living facility she resided in. Two weeks later, she contracted the virus but was able to beat it.
John Schutz, Miller’s son-in-law, says she has been isolated in her room for a year. However, she left her room on Saturday to celebrate her big day. ....

Twelve years ago I was participating in a community clean-up of a vacant lot in downtown Newburgh when someone found a deer leg. The rest of the deer was nowhere to be found.
The cleanup ended for the day shortly after that, on account of temporary demoralization.
That lot has since been transformed into a lush and sustainable urban park, complete with sculptures that double as public cell phone charging stations and massive, stately photographic portraits of Newburgh residents peering down from the wall of the once-and-future Ritz Theater. Man, oh man. I live out in the boonies in Hampden, almost out to the Newburgh border. So going out to eat, pandemic aside, has usually meant having to head all the way back in town. It s not a hardship really. When you move into the country, you expect to be making trips in town a lot.
And lord knows, I love to go up to the Tacorita in Orono, or Pepino s in town. So one can easily imagine how excited I was when I heard there was a taco place coming to Newburgh, of all places. So I started digging around online, and found a Facebook page for The Taco Shack. ....
