10 positive cases who arrived from UK to be tested for mutant strain of coronavirus

Several passengers who arrived in India on the last flights from UK were found positive for Covid-19. (PTI)
States which have reported Covid-19 positive passengers from UK who have returned to India over the past few days will now be sending some of the samples for further testing to track the new coronavirus strain. The samples will be sent to select laboratories in the country for genome sequencing.
The health ministry has asked states to coordinate with the respective Airport Health Offices (APHOs) and surveillance officials to ensure strict adherence of the various Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) designed in the wake of the new coronavirus strain. ....

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry has reviewed the status of passengers coming from the UK to India and directed states and Union Territories to send samples of those found coronavirus positive to six laboratories identified for genome sequencing.
The laboratories are: - the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in New Delhi, the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad, the DBT-Institute of Life Sciences in Bhubaneswar, DBT-InStem-NCBS in Bengaluru, the DBT-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics in West Bengal and the ICMR-National Institute of Virology in Pune. ....

COVID positive UK returnees have moved to nine states including Punjab, the government said today, asking all these states to track these travellers as the genome sequencing of samples progresses.
The Centre also said so far no UK mutant strain has been detected in India.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan reviewed status of these travellers with the states where they went. The states are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Goa, Punjab, Gujarat and Kerala. ....

Six labs identified for genome sequencing of samples of UK returnees
On Tuesday, the Union Health Ministry had released detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for states regarding travellers from the UK who arrived in India over the past month, which includes carrying out genome sequencing in case of positive samples.

New Delhi, Dec 24: Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan reviewed the status of passengers coming from UK to India and found positive in the States/UTs of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Goa, Punjab, Gujarat and Kerala and their response measures in a meeting held through Video Conferencing today, in the presence of DG, ICMR, Health Secretaries from the States/UT, NHM MD,Ms Arti Ahuja, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Sujeet Singh, Director, NCDC, and other senior health officials.
