Israel’s own coronavirus vaccine project passed a milestone on Monday, as it completed Phase I of clinical trials and prepared to move on to Phase II.
The Israel Institute for Biological Research (IIBR) Phase II is expected to begin in the coming days with the participation of approximately 1,000 volunteers at Sheba and Hadassah Medical Centers, then gradually expanding to additional medical centers throughout the country.
Defense Minister, Benny Gantz said that “the scientists of the IIBR are Israel’s ‘elite unit,’ and have taken on an extremely important task – saving human lives. I see great importance in the development of an Israeli vaccine that will continue to serve Israeli society for years to come.” ....

Israel set to start second phase of human trials of its Covid-19 vaccine candidate

Israel is set to start the second phase of human clinical trials of its Covid-19 vaccine candidate, named Brilife, in the coming days following the successful completion of the first phase, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.
The second phase of the human trial will involve the participation of approximately 1,000 volunteers.
The Ministry of Health has approved the continuation of clinical trials for the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Institute for Biological Research (IIBR), following the successful completion of the first phase, the MoD said in a statement.
During the first phase, no significant side effects were identified, and two expert committees, both internal and external recommended the approval of the second phase. As such, the institute completed all the necessary preparations and is ready for the immediate launch of the second phase, the statement said. ....

Israel’s Institute for Biological Research successfully completed the first stage of testing its coronavirus vaccine on Monday and plans to expand its trials to some 1,000 volunteers for the next phase, the Defense Ministry said.
