Until last year, literature festivals were among the few public events in Karachi that provided locals with a physical space in which to observe and engage in literary, artistic and intellectual discussion. A majority of the child abuse cases in Pakistan go unreported, said child protection experts on Friday as they spoke at a seminar organised by the Aga Khan University’s (AKU) Institute for Educational Development (IED).
The seminar was titled ‘Safeguarding Children: Communities, Schools and Online’. It was said that even though Pakistan had a range of laws to protect children, poor implementation of regulations alongside a low conviction rate was causing child abuse to be a persistent problem in society.
Experts also highlighting ways to report child abuse, including dialling 15 to contact police and 1121 to contact the child protection authority. ....

Govt set to adopt Single National Curriculum
In first phase, classes 1-5 will adopt new curricula
LAHORE:
The provincial cabinet recently approved the Single National Curriculum (SNC) for Punjab, following which Minister for Schools Education Dr Murad Raas announced that the new curriculum would be implemented in phases starting from school year 2021.
He also said that SNC implementation is a national responsibility and it was not designed to limit the number of organizations or stakeholders but to bring them under a framework. The federal government had announced to implement a uniform curriculum for public and private schools across the country. ....
