Elizabeth landlord Joseph Centanni, 73, of Mountainside, is now facing more than a dozen criminal charges, a DOJ lawsuit and three separate state lawsuits alleging he sexually abused and harassed his tenants.
Two tenants filed lawsuits in state court this week alleging an Elizabeth landlord, who is facing a host of criminal charges and a Department of Justice lawsuit, tried to use his position to illicit sexual favors in exchange for housing.
In their separate lawsuits, a man and a woman allege that Joseph Centanni, 73, of Mountainside, tried to use his position as a powerful landlord to exchange housing benefits if they performed sexual acts, though both say they refused Centanni’s advances. ....

New Jersey town being sued again for discrimination against Orthodox Jews

(JTA) The state of New Jersey is suing one its towns over alleged discrimination against Orthodox Jews the second such lawsuit against the town in less than a year.
Jackson Township has been selectively applying local laws and drafting new ones as part of an attempt to push out Orthodox Jews and limit their religious activities, the lawsuit alleges, according to a report by NJ Advance Media.
“We’ve filed this lawsuit because bias and hate have no home in New Jersey, and we will not allow some vocal residents’ intolerance to drive local government decisions,” New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in a statement. “Like all public servants, municipal officials have a duty to uphold the law, not weaponize it against specific groups because of what they believe or how they worship.” ....

On less than 24 hours’ notice, more than 40 people came out on Feb. 15 to show their opposition to a Feb. 3 legal brief by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, a so-called “progressive.” It denies Mumia Abu-Jamal the right to prove his innocence in court.
A member of the Black Panther Party as a teenager, and a justice-seeking journalist known as the “Voice of the Voiceless,” Abu-Jamal was falsely convicted of murder by the racist injustice system almost four decades ago. He was summarily condemned to death row. ....
