McDougall Review into icare handed down

The NSW Government acknowledges and welcomes the recommendations of the fast tracked icare and State Insurance and Care Governance Act 2015 Independent Review, handed down by retired Supreme Court Judge Hon. Robert McDougall QC today.
Mr McDougall conducted a root and branch examination of Insurance and Care NSW (icare) and examined issues raised over the past year.
The Review offers an independent assessment of the issues and challenges facing icare and the worker’s compensation scheme and deals with these fully and frankly.
The Review states icare’s push for change was well-intentioned but was conducted too quickly which led to poor execution and failures in areas including procurement, cost management, probity, and conflict management. ....

Deliveroo’s annual workers’ compensation premiums have fallen from nearly $870,000 to $217,000 after it stopped insuring food delivery riders under its scheme, exposing the state insurer to the costs of uninsured claims.
Internal documents seen by
The Sydney Morning Herald show Deliveroo workers made more than half the claims – 53 out of 96 for compensation from February 2, 2019.
Deliveroo no longer covers its riders under the workers’ compensation scheme, raising concerns for the NSW insurer about its exposure to a growing number of claims from uninsured food delivery riders.

A doctor used by federal workers compensation authority Comcare and its licensees to examine claimants has never been formally investigated despite 66 complaints being made about him since 2000 to the Health Care Complaints Commission.
