State panel approves designation of Segundo Barrio as historic district
AUSTIN, Texas - A state historical review panel voted unanimously Saturday to support the designation of south El Paso s Segundo Barrio as a historic district.
With the vote by the Texas Historical Commission s State Review Board, the proposal for the historic district can advance to the National Park Service for potential inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
This would make state and federal tax credits available for renovation or restoration of nearly 700 properties in the area. The barrio is currently on the Preservation Texas list of Most Endangered places, and in 2016 it was named to the Most Endangered list by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a national non-profit that advocates for historic preservation. ....

Downtown Lenox nominated for National Register of Historic Places

LENOX â The townâs historic downtown district and nearby residential neighborhoods are being proposed for designation to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission has been interested in this honorary distinction for the title of Lenox Village Historic District since 2017, when the town celebrated the 250th anniversary of its founding.
Now, a legally required public informational session to discuss the nomination is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 24, via Zoom, hosted by the Lenox Historical Commission.
A representative of the state Historical Commission will be available to answer any questions about the meaning of the designation.
A total of 264 residential and commercial properties, all constructed before 1944, are included for the proposed designation because they contribute to the historical significance of the town, according to Olga Weiss, who chairs the Lenox Historical Commission. ....
