Bill to reinstate COVID-19 hazard pay to corrections staff passed out of committee

AUGUSTA Legislation sponsored by State Representative Bill Pluecker, I-Warren, to reinstate COVID-19 hazard pay to Department of Corrections Staff was unanimously approved by the Legislature’s Criminal Justice & Public Safety Committee.
LD 1683, “An Act To Compensate Department of Corrections Employees for Hazardous Work” will rightfully provide Department of Corrections staff hazard pay relating from the COVID-19 pandemic that they stopped receiving from the state government in December.
At the beginning of the pandemic, to encourage Corrections staff from leaving their high-risk jobs which became complicated by a deadly virus, Governor Janet Mills issued a hazard pay stipend on top of their regular pay from federal Coronavirus Relief Funds, with an understanding that the pay would continue until the state of emergency ended. ....

Pair of Rep. Pluecker PFAS bills unanimously advanced by committees

AUGUSTA The State Legislature’s policy committees unanimously voted this to advance two measures sponsored by State Representative Bill Pluecker, I-Warren, to assist farmers in addressing forever chemical pollutants, Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS).
The Judiciary Committee approved Rep. Pluecker’s measure Wednesday to extend the statute of limitations to take legal action for injuries or harm resulting from PFAS contamination.
This proposal would allow those that are impacted by PFAS contamination the ability to take legal action within six years of discovery of PFAs pollution, instead of six years after the pollution originally occurred, per a news release.
“Passage of this bill is essential to ensuring that whoever created this mess will be responsible to pay to clean it up,” said Rep. Pluecker. “Farmers and other impacted communities deserve the opportunity to seek justice for the harm done to themselves and their families.” ....
