HARARE: Zimbabwe’s justice minister accused the country’s judiciary of being “captured” by foreign forces seeking to destabilise the government after the High Court ruled it was illegal to extend the tenure of the chief justice by five more years, a British wire service reported on Sunday.
Three judges of the High Court said in a judgment on Saturday that Luke Malaba had ceased being a judge and chief justice after he turned 70 years old. Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said in a strongly worded statement late on Saturday that the ruling was “a typical case of overreach and as government we cannot accept that.” ....

Ex-NBA Chairman urges FG to deduct judiciary allocation from source

Olu-Alade made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun.

He urged the Federal Government to direct the Attorney-General of the Federation and Accountant General to deduct from source monies standing to the credit of the judiciary.
”’The provisions of Constitution are clear to the extent that the Judiciary both at the Federal and State Level shall be independent in line with Section 121 (3), Section 81 (3) and Section 162(9).
”The Federal Government should resolve the prolonged judiciary workers strike through provisions in the Constitution,” he said.
Olu-Alade said the strike was regrettable as the judiciary staff had to embark on industrial action to compel the executive to comply with the law that guarantees autonomy for the judiciary. ....

Joel Greenberg, the former confidant of Representative Matt Gaetz, pleaded guilty on Monday in federal court in Orlando to a range of charges, including sex trafficking a minor, as part of a plea deal that will require him to help in other Justice Department investigations.
