Advocates, community allies stand together to stop proposed Arkansas Stand Your Ground bill
As the Arkansas House Judiciary Committee plans to hear a controversial “Stand Your Ground” bill on Tuesday, dozens of community leaders gathered against it.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas Black community leaders, groups, and allies stood together in support of stopping the Stand your Ground bill in front of the State Capitol Sunday afternoon. Over a dozen people were in attendance to support the Real Love press conference.
The Arkansas State NAACP, local NAACP chapters, W. Harold Flowers Law Society, Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington, former judge Marion Humphrey, Judge Alice Gray, Rabbi Barry Block of Temple B nai, Citizens First Congress, Urban League, Arkansas United, Indivisible Little Rock and Central Arkansas all were present at the event.  ....

Police captain's suit against Chief Keith Humphrey has been dismissed; changes coming in three related cases


Circuit Judge Wendell Griffen has granted
Little Rock Police Capt. Marcus Paxton’s motion to voluntarily dismiss his lawsuit against Chief Keith Humphrey for retaliating him over perceived criticism of the chief.
The motion for dismissal didn’t state a reason. The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning it could be refiled.

Paxton was represented by Chris Burks, who this week stepped off a similar case against Humphrey by three other officers, including assistant chief Hayward Finks, over Humphrey’s actions against them. Burks resigned the case rather than be held in contempt for releasing information in the case that was under a protective order. He disputed that he’d done that. ....
