An elderly Kilkenny man who harassed an RTE presenter with semen stained letters has been jailed for two years.
The man has also been ordered to have no contact with the presenter “forever.”
The man appeared before Kilkenny Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to 13 counts on indictment - two of harassment and 11 counts of sending ‘indecent, obscene, grossly offensive or menacing’ items by post contrary to S55 (1) (b) of the Communication Regulation (Postal Services) Act 2011.

Woman loses €60,000 damages claim against Daa

A woman, who suffered leg wounds when she walked into a luggage trolley that she was pushing, has lost a €60,000 damages claim against the operator of Dublin Airport.
Anne Hughes, of Main Street, Athleague in Co Roscommon, was also told to pay the company s substantial legal costs.
Judge James McCourt, in dismissing the 66-year-old s claim, said he had not heard any evidence to convince him that Daa had been negligent in any way towards the retired healthcare worker.
He told defence counsel Shane English that anyone who had heard Ms Hughes evidence would feel great sympathy for her, but told her legal team it was impossible to make a silk purse out of a sow s ear. ....

SUVs can deliver 'knock-out' punches to bantamweight cars, judge tells court

Sports utility vehicles (SUVs) can deliver knock-out punches even in low-impact collisions with smaller cars such as three and five-door hatchbacks, a judge ruled today in a â¬60,000 personal injuries claim arising out of âa bumpâ at traffic lights.
Judge James McCourt said in the Circuit Civil Court he was well acquainted with the outcomes of low-impact collisions between heavy SUVs such as the two-ton 2016 Jaguar that had rear-ended FÃ¡ilte Ireland driver and tour guide Natasha Roperâs nine-year-old Ford Fiesta.
In boxing parlance Judge McCourt told barrister Matthew Jolley, counsel for Ms Roper, the court accepted that a heavyweight Jaguar SUV could easily deliver a knock-out punch to such bantam or featherweight vehicles such as the Ford Fiesta even in low-impact collisions. ....
