Construction Continues In Lakewood | News, Sports, Jobs

Asphalt was cleared from Chautauqua Avenue Monday as part of improvements for the New York State Green Street Retrofit project. Construction from municipal crews and Kingsview Enterprises is expected to be completed by late June.

Construction efforts on the Chautauqua Avenue Green Street Retrofit Project were in full swing in the village of Lakewood on Monday afternoon.
Crews had stripped asphalt from the avenue, set up a detour for local traffic, and were in the process of sweeping and clearing debris from the area.
“Kingsview (Enterprises) has started at the four corners with their work,” Department of Public Works Supervisor Tom Pilling told the Lakewood Village Board at a regular meeting Monday. ....

Construction To Begin On Lakewood Retrofit Project | News, Sports, Jobs

LAKEWOOD The Chautauqua Avenue Green Street Retrofit project is set to begin construction this month.
The village of Lakewood received a grant from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation via the Green Innovation Grant Program and Clean Water State Revolving Fund in 2018 that has allowed it to undertake the project.
This project is the result of a study published in 2018 by the village of Lakewood and town of Busti Storm Water Management Engineering Study.
Although the project is aimed at redirecting the silt flow from storm water, byproducts of this product include the increased health of Chautauqua Lake and a better-looking village, officials said. ....

The Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance has scheduled its 2021 Chautauqua Lake Water Quality Research Panel for April 10 from 9:30-11 a.m.
Once again the Alliance is partnering with Chautauqua Institution to host the panel on its Virtual Porch online portal.
Details on keynote speakers and topics will be forthcoming, as will registration details, but the panel expected to include a range of scientists and researchers working on lake monitoring projects. ....

A grant from the Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance has been issued to cover potential herbicide treatment of Chautauqua Lake this year. The grant was discussed during a meeting of the Lakewood Village Board this week.

LAKEWOOD Village Mayor Randy Holcomb announced in his report to board members this week that the Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance has issued a grant covering potential herbicide treatment of Chautauqua Lake in 2021.
The village had approved submitting its application for herbicides to the the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at its previous meeting, but had noted that there were not currently budget funds available for treatment this year, should it be approved. ....

Alliance Achieves Funding Goal For 2021 | News, Sports, Jobs

The Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance has secured $690,000 to implement its 2021 consolidated work plan for the care and maintenance of Chautauqua Lake and its watershed.
Funding is provided by The Lenna Foundation, the Ralph C. Sheldon Foundation and the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, who continued their support of the alliance’s consolidated local funding process. The process, available exclusively to alliance members, works to identify, prioritize, and fund projects using a structured decision-making framework that balances a variety of management techniques, stakeholder priorities, and lake uses.
“We are extremely grateful for the financial support from the local foundations, and heartened by their continued support of our efforts to protect and enhance the health and usability of Chautauqua Lake,” said Pierre Chagnon, alliance board chairman. ....
