Piping canals would rob areas of charm

I apologize from the outset with regard to my comments in that I do not have the time to fully evaluate the plan to pipe irrigation canals in Logan fed by the Logan River. Based on reading the FAQ and a reading of the plan objectives, these are my concerns.
There is reference to lost water. If that means that seepage from the river south of Center Street is in question, it is important to remember that that function serves to recharge the aquifer in that part of town and has much to do with greening of the southern expanse of the Island and areas downstream. This has much to do with the trees in particular and are a key element in the charm and quasi-riparian aspects of the lifestyle there. I grew up on the Island in a time when that was more predominant, perhaps, but it is a primary attraction, I believe, in the growing perception among young families who are buying homes here. Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials reported 358 new COVID-19 cases: 198 on Saturday and 160 on Sunday. In Santa Fe County, there were 13 new cases four on Saturday and nine on Sunday. There have now been 188,311 total cases, 166,437 designated as recovered by the health department.
The state also announced five additional deaths: three on Saturday and two on Sunday. There have now been 3,852 total fatalities. As of yesterday, 118 people were hospitalized with COVID-19.
Nearly 46% of people who have registered for a vaccine through the health department s vaccine registry have received at least one dose, and approximately 23% are fully vaccinated. The figures come via a new DOH dashboard showing vaccinations by the phases of the state s vaccination plan just for those vaccinated via the state s registry. Alberta’s government is asking anyone who purchased moss balls after Jan. 1 to destroy and dispose of them.

Live zebra mussels, which are an invasive species, have been discovered in moss (marimo) balls, a spherical, plant-like algae commonly sold at pet and garden stores throughout North America, including in Alberta.
Albertans should destroy moss balls by freezing or boiling them, then placing the moss balls in a sealed plastic bag and disposing of them with their household trash. Moss balls, and any water they were in, should not be flushed down the toilet, put down a drain or placed in a compost. ....
