Research funding to the University of Alabama at Birmingham from the National Institutes of Health exceeded $325 million in 2020. The university received $325,573,502, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. That placed UAB 27th in the list of universities receiving funding from the NIH. Among public universities, UAB ranked 12th.
The largest amount of funding, $269,911,974, went to investigators in the School of Medicine. This was an increase of more than $13 million over 2019, good for 24th overall among the nation’s medical schools.
“This is the second year in a row that UAB research funding from NIH has been over $300 million, reaffirming UAB’s place as a leading academic research institution,” said Chris Brown, Ph.D., vice president for Research at UAB. “In addition to serving as a major economic driver for Birmingham and Alabama, this research funding lead ....

The Washington State University College of Nursing is now among the top 20 nursing schools nationally for National Institutes of Health research funding.
The WSU College of Nursing ranked No. 19 among nursing colleges in the United States last year for funding from the NIH, which is the largest public funder of biomedical research in the world. The rankings are based on the federal fiscal year, which runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.
In fiscal 2019 the WSU College of Nursing ranked 23
rd on that list, and ranked 27
th the year before that.

Emory rises in rankings of federal research funding, research group says

Emory University received more federal research dollars from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) than ever before and continued to climb in an independent ranking of peer institutions.
The Fiscal Year 2020 rankings from the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research compare schools and departments across the United States on the basis of NIH funding.
Overall, Emory rose to 18th in the nation pulling in $507 million in funding. That’s up from 19th the year before, when it attracted $382 million.
About 20 percent of Emory’s FY2020 NIH funding supported research related to COVID-19.
“The growing support from NIH demonstrated in these rankings underscores the high quality of research taking place at Emory,” says David Stephens, MD, vice president for research at Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center and chair of the department of medicine in the School of Medicine. ....

In 2020, UMass Medical School advanced to 21st the highest in its history in National Institutes of Health funding among the 140 medical schools, public and private, that receive NIH funding, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Biomedical Research. The ranking is up from 38th in 2019.
UMMS received $290.9 million in NIH funding in 2020, an increase from $209.6 million the previous year.
The Medical School was second only to the Yale School of Medicine in New England and eighth among all public medical schools in the U.S.
