The New Braunfels Public Library will begin extending the loan periods on some types of library materials starting Monday. Books, audiobooks and compact discs will move from a three-week initial checkout to a four-week checkout with one renewal. Additionally, DVDs and Blu-rays will move to a two-week initial checkout with two renewals from the original one-week initial checkout period. New books and new audiobooks will keep their two-week initial checkout period with two renewals. Library Director Gretchen Pruett said the changes in loan periods are intended to streamline the amount of time different types of materials can be checked out. ....
To check-in materials and sort them into a bin is an essential but sometimes tedious library function. But an automated material handling system used by librarians at the New Braunfels Public Library now takes the hassle out of sorting, makes the process easier and more efficient and helps get returned materials back into circulation as quickly as possible. According to Digital Services Librarian Miranda Robbins, the system, manufactured by Minnesota-based TechLogic Inc., detects and sorts the materials as they are returned by patrons on a conveyor belt using radio frequency identification technology. The machine then places the items into bins by type or subject, such as adult fiction books, childrenâs fiction books, non-fiction books and DVDs. ....

Louth libraries Spring into Storytime with online events Reporter: Louth county libraries are encouraging families to Spring into Storytime this April. Public libraries’ annual Spring Into Storytime programme launched on April 1st and promises to bring the magic of storytime to homes across Louth and the rest of the country. This year, Spring Into Storytime is moving online and Louth County Libraries will organise virtual events and activities, all based around reading and listening to stories, which families can enjoy at home. The programme provides an ideal opportunity for children to take time to enjoy a variety of stories through online storytimes by library staff and authors and experience reading as an activity which is fun, entertaining and allows families to share this happy time together. ....
