Thousands of tonnes of tyre microplastics are washed into UK waters each year, a report has warned, as electric vehicles could make the problem worse.
Analysis by waste firm SUEZ and consultancy Soenecs concluded that 63,000 tonnes, the equivalent of 9m standard car tyres, is being shed each year on UK roads, just over half of which ends up in the water system. ....

The use of single-use plastic bags is quite harmful for the environment. A single bag can take up to one thousand years to decay completely. Many people discard these bags carelessly. These bags end up in garbage dumps and oceans, posing a big threat to animals. It is a shocking fact that close to 100,000 marine animals are killed by plastic bags annually. It also shows how our careless attitude is endangering the life of marine animals.
The authorities concerned should look into this problem and come up with a solution.

Varanasi, April 5 (IANS) A unique waste bank has been opened in Uttar Pradesh s Varanasi, which is also the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to keep the environment clean. This bank involves transactions through plastic waste. The plastic is collected by the people of the city, volunteers of the plastic waste bank as well as consumers and deposited here.

Washington [US], April 5 (ANI): Women exposed to endocrine-disrupting chemicals commonly found in plastics during pregnancy are at a higher risk of experiencing postpartum depression, suggested a new study.
The findings of the study were published in the Endocrine Society s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
The study also found that these harmful chemicals may influence hormonal shifts during pregnancy.
Postpartum depression is a serious and common psychiatric disorder that affects up to 1 in 5 childbearing women. The cause of postpartum depression is not well understood, but hormonal changes during pregnancy have been found to be an important factor. ....
