Missing Teen Daughter of Newark Anti-Violence Activist Was Kidnapped and Killed: Sheriff

A 15-year-old daughter of a New Jersey anti-violence activist who was missing for nearly a month has been found dead, according to authorities.
Sanaa Amenhotep went missing April 5 in Columbia, South Carolina, and law enforcement officials announced Thursday that she had been and kidnapped and murdered. She is the daughter of Sharif Malik Amenhotep, the Vice-Chair of the Newark Anti-Violence Coalition and a member of the New Black Panther Party.

Amenhotep s body was found in a wooded area in Lexington County, local NBC affiliate WISTV reported, and investigators say she had been there for weeks. ....

NEWARK, NJ The missing 15-year-old daughter of a Newark anti-violence community activist was found dead in South Carolina on Thursday, authorities announced.  
Sanaa Amenhotep was kidnapped and killed after leaving her home in South Carolina, local sheriff Leon Lott said during a Thursday press conference. After the teen was reported missing from her home on April 5, her body was found the night of April 28 in the woods off in Lexington County, South Carolina, authorities said. 
Following the announcement of her death, Newark officials and community leaders offered their condolences to the teen’s family and her father, Sharif Malik Amenhotep, a prominent social justice advocate in the city.  ....

Protesters call for federal civil rights probe into fatal police shooting in Newark

Civil rights activists are calling on New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor to investigate the fatal shooting of Carl Dorsey III by a Newark plainclothes detective, after authorities released a videotape of the chaotic, deadly encounter just after midnight on New Year’s Day, and appeared to contradict an earlier assertion by local officials that weapons were recovered at the scene.
“Tonight, I’m calling publicly on Rachel Honig, the acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, to launch a civil rights investigation into the murder of Carl Dorsey,” said People’s Organization for Progress Chairman Lawrence Hamm, addressing two dozen protestors gathered in the bitter cold Thursday night at the scene of shooting on South 11th Street at Woodlawn Avenue. ....
