Firefighters rescued a driver in his 50s whose vehicle fell approximately 20 feet down an embankment off the side of Route 1&9 in a crash with a tractor trailer Tuesday.
The incident occurred at the Route 78 westbound ramp around 4:20 p.m.
At approximately 4:20 p.m., Newark Firefighters responded to the scene of the crash, where the victim’s car had dropped some 20 feet down, entrapping the driver.

Newark Fire Engine 10, Engine 29, Ladder 10 with Rescue 1, Rescue 2 and other members worked to extricate the trapped man with heavy rescue equipment, freeing the victim in less than an hour of the incident, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said. ....

Truck crash sends car off Route 78 ramp in Newark


The car had been traveling on a ramp from Routes 1&9.
Using rope and other heavier equipment, firefighters took about an hour to free the man trapped inside his white car.
The crash left the truck laying on its side on the ramp, according to Newark police.
The driver of the car suffered severe head trauma with multiple cuts to his body and was transported to University Hospital, according to Newark police, who did not disclose the condition of the truck driver.

A New Jersey driver had to be rescued on Tuesday after a terrifying crash with a tractor trailer sent his car flying down the side of a highway.
As reported by CBS New York, the accident took place around 4:30 p.m. on an I-78 entrance ramp in Newark. The semi truck reportedly overturned, pushing the Toyota Corolla off the road on its way down.
The driver of the Toyota, a man in his 50s, was then trapped inside his vehicle, says ABC7 New York. Newark firefighters soon arrived at the scene and removed the man from his car within an hour. ....

A 7-year-old boy died on the third floor of a Newark house fire that left three families homeless Thursday morning.
Firefighters responded to a call of fire at the 3-story home at 65 Astor St., at approximately 4:50 a.m., Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said.
The child’s father escaped the home through the front door and attempted to re-enter via the roof of 67 Astor St. 
Two adults and three children were hospitalized.
He was removed from the roof by Newark Firefighters via ground ladder.
The fire extended to two adjacent residences at 63 and 67 Astor St., both of which suffered minor dire damage through the adjoining wall. ....
