Sandra McGovern MUNISING Munising Memorial Hospital has announced it has a new chief executive officer and chief financial officer. Sandra McGovern, doctor of nursing practice, was hired as the hospital’s CEO in December, while Kevin Carlson was hired as CFO in November 2019. “Kevin Carlson came to our facility with a wide range of accounting experience. He has been an excellent asset to our administrative team. Sandy McGovern recently joined our administrative team and has provided excellent guidance and leadership for our facility as well,” Munising Memorial Hospital Board President Marilyn Beverley said in a news release. “We are excited to have both Kevin and Sandy in these leadership positions and are looking forward to a great future for Munising Memorial Hospital.” ....

Feb 4, 2021 NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI – James Douglas Cody, 74, of Midway Drive, Negaunee Township, passed away at his home Monday evening, February 1, 2021. Jim was born November 23, 1946, in Ishpeming to Clayton and Margaret (Carlin) Cody, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of ’67 and was a lifelong Negaunee area resident. Jim completed his schooling at Michigan Technical College, earning an Associate’s Degree as a diesel mechanic. He was employed as a diesel mechanic at both Lakeshore Inc. and LS&I Railroad. In his spare time, Jim loved being at his home doing tasks. He could usually be found tinkering around in his garage, maintaining the lawn and doing small projects. ....

(Journal file photo) NEGAUNEE Progress continues to be made on the Historic Vista Theater in downtown Negaunee after its roof collapsed last August. The Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council, the nonprofit organization that owns and operates the theater, said “winterizing” of the building is complete. “We had promised right after the roof collapsed that we would be getting the debris out of the building and then shoring up the walls for protection from the wind and have temporary walls put up to protect the stage area and the balcony and lobby,” said PAAC board president Rusty Bowers. “Those are all in place.” ....

Toni was born in Sault Ste. Marie, MI on May 1, 1961, a daughter of the late Theresa (Scopilliti) and Alton Conrad, III; She was a graduate of the Negaunee High School. Toni worked as a Field Representative for the United States Census Bureau for 17 years. Toni loved the lord and served in many different ministries in the area. Her heart was particularly in women’s ministry, and she loved to bring women together in different avenues. Always with a spiritual emphasis, she included time spent in nature and creative activities. She loved the UP, and lived life like a tourist.
