Milkha Singh death reports a hoax, India legend responding well to treatment confirms PGIMER director

India track and field legend Milkha Singh, who is currently undergoing treatment at Nehru Hospital Extension at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, is responding well to the treatment, the institute confirmed on Saturday afternoon. The 91-year-old is currently battling COVID-19 and has been kept under the supervision of three doctors.   
The director of the medical institute, Jagat Ram, earlier in the day released a video in this regard and gave all the updates related to the former athlete s health. In the video, the director said that Milkha Singh was admitted on June 3 and confirmed about the improvment in his health.  ....

Over 50% Covid beds occupied in Chandigarh's govt hospitals

With a spike in Covid cases, the government-run hospitals in Chandigarh have been witnessing a steady rise in the patient count.
City hospitals have already surpassed 50 per cent occupancy and ICU beds have been exhausted in a few of these. According to doctors, the severity of the disease in Covid patients coming to the hospital is higher this time as compared to the previous wave. At the PGI, there is a capacity of 300 beds for Covid patients of which 178 have been occupied.
Of the total Covid beds, 50 are for ICU and all of these are currently occupied by critically ill patients. ....

More than 2.97 crore beneficiaries have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in India so far, according to the Union Health Ministry s provisional report.
On March 13, the 57th day of the immunisation drive, a total of 15,19,952 beneficiaries were vaccinated, the ministry said. Of these, 12,32,131 beneficiaries were given the first shot of the two-dose regime. A total of 2,87,821 healthcare and frontline workers received the second dose, the ministry added.
The second dose of COVID-19 vaccination started for beneficiaries who have completed 28 days since receiving the first shot. The emergency use approval granted by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) accords a window of four to six weeks for the second dose to be administered. ....

Following the discovery of
new strain of COVID-19 virus in the United Kingdom, the Chandigarh Administration took key decisions in the war room meeting here on Wednesday. Besides keeping apni mandis closed, the UT Administration was also mulling over the concept of night curfew.
“As regards the proposal to impose night curfew in city, it was decided to wait and watch the situation a few more days before taking a final call on the matter,” said a statement issued by the administration. ....
