Former Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki has said the current situation in Nigeria requires a sincere change of mindset by all Nigerians. “The current situation in our country requires sincere change of mindset by all Nigerians,” Saraki said in a congratulatory message to Muslims on the completion of Ramadan on Wednesday signed by his spokesman Yusuph Olaniyonu.
“We should use this post-Ramadan period and the lessons we learnt from the fasting period to steer clear of any action which does not bode well for our country.”

Saraki Denies Rejecting Buhari's $1bn Request for Arms Purchase

Former President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has denied a claim that the 8th Senate he led rejected request of $1 billion from President Muhammadu Buhari to purchase arms to fight insecurity in the country.
He said they merely insisted that the Executive follow due process provided by the nation’s Constitution. This is contained in a statement issued yesterday by Oluwole Onemola, a media aide to the immediate past President of the Senate.
The statement titled ‘MURIC Lied: 8th Senate Aided, Not Hindered President Buhari’s Fight Against Insecurity’, described the claim allegedly made “by one Prof. Ishaq Akintola,” as “unenlightened propaganda piece disguised as a ‘press statement,’ which was published on Thursday, April 8th,” and that the claim of the professor, who acted “under the one-man operation group known as MURIC, is factually and constitutionally incorrect.” ....

The former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has disclosed that contrary to a press statement issued by the Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Professor Ishaq Akintola, the eighth Senate which he presided over actually aided and not hindered President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against insecurity.
In a statement issued by Mr Oluwole Onemola, Media Officer of Dr Saraki, the former Senate President said contrary to the statement which alleged that the Saraki-led eighth Senate “rejected the president’s request for $1 billion for the purchase of arms,” the truth is that the eighth Senate never rejected any fund request for security but only insisted that the due process should be adhered to. ....
