Wemimo Bright Jaiyesimi Named Inaugural Recipient of Robert L. Gilbert Scholar in Religion Graduate Fellowship

WACO, Texas (April 19, 2021) Baylor University’s department of religion has announced that Wemimo Bright Jaiyesimi of Lagos, Nigeria, has been named the recipient of the inaugural Robert L. Gilbert Scholar in Religion Graduate Fellowship.
The fellowship is named for the Rev. Robert Gilbert, B.A. 67, the first Black graduate of Baylor University, along with Barbara Walker, B.A. ’67. In 1970, Gilbert became the first Black student to enroll in Baylor’s religion graduate program. As an influential educator, pastor and civil rights leader in the Waco area, Gilbert was the first Black member elected to the Waco Independent School District Board in 1976. He also was a champion of women in ministry, being the first Black Baptist pastor to license a female minister. ....

Baptist cleric tasks leaders, christians on leadership

Rev. Dele Oluwole, Registrar of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, has called on Christian leaders in all organisations to emulate Jesus Christ’s model of leadership, to improve their workplace relationship and management.
Speaking at the Christian Workers’ Summit of the Lagos West Baptist Conference, held at the Triumphant Baptist Church, Akowonjo, Lagos, to round off the church’s last year’s activities, the cleric noted that Nigeria is plagued by poor leadership, stressing that the challenge has also crept into the church.
With theme, ‘Servant Leadership –The Godly Method of Church Leadership,’ Oluwole drawing his homily from John 13: 1–17, disclosed that Jesus Christ knowingly bequeathed the servant-leader model of leadership to the church, because He wanted church leaders to effectively and efficiently manage the church and other issues that may come out from it. ....
