Insecurity: Don't Abandon Nigeria, SAN Begs Youth

By Alex Enumah
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Yakubu Maikyau has pleaded passionately with Nigerian youths to sustain their hope in the country, in spite of the numerous challenges confronting the country.
The senior Lawyer specifically appealed that the youths should not abandon the nation, because they are the ones to salvage the nation from economic, social and political ruins.
Maikyau, who spoke on the opening of the Abuja Lawyers’ Football League on Saturday, recalled the event of 1989 in Saudi Arabia, when Nigerian youths engaged their USSR counterpart in a world cup tournament, adding that the Nigerian team was four goals down, but with hope and determination levelled up and won the game. The senior Lawyer said that with the kind of hope and determination exhibited at the time, the current youth are also capable of bringing back the nation to the right path of glory, in spite of the challenges. ....

NCDMB-SBL Partnership'll Drive Enforcement of Local Content for Nigerian Lawyers

The Director, Legal Services, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Muhammed Umar, has said that the success of any good law such as the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content (NOGICD) Act cannot be hinged on the elegance of its form or content, but rather the commitment of all stakeholders to make a success of it, in spite of any observed limitations.
Speaking during a one-day symposium organised by the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) and NCDMB themed: ‘NOGICD ACT-Strides: Challenges and Opportunities’, Umar disclosed that the engagement with (NBA-SBL) is one of the stakeholder engagement mechanisms geared towards bringing out the activities of the Board, seeking understanding and engaging people on what the Board is doing. ....

'NBA Must Have a Verifiable, Foolproof Voting System'

Legal education in Nigeria, has come with its huge challenges. With so many Lawyers being churned out of the Nigerian Law School, arguments have been rife as to whether Nigeria really has the capacity to gainfully engage this huge number of Lawyers. Mr. O.C.J. Okocha, SAN has been former Attorney-General of Rivers State, past NBA President, past Chairman, Council of Legal Education, and now Chairman, Body of Benchers. In a chat with Onikepo Braithwaite and Jude Igbanoi, he gave insights into various areas and issues in the profession, including the reason why the National Open University of Nigeria was recently stopped from admitting law students into its programmes. 'My Administration is Committed to Reforming NBA's Electoral System'

Olumide Akpata
Coming into the saddle of leadership of Africa’s largest professional body, albeit through a much faulted and criticised election as President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata has wasted no time in assuaging the confidence of Nigerian Lawyers that, he indeed, can deliver on all his electoral promises. Even in the midst of a debilitating global pandemic, he told Onikepo Braithwaite and Jude Igbanoi in a chat that his administration will not have any excuse not to lift the NBA back to its past glory (and more), and ensure the welfare of young Lawyers, amongst many other productive initiatives designed to benefit all members ....
