The World Bank has approved additional financing of $11 million from the International Development Association (IDA) to improve connectivity in Togo and develop the country’s digital economy.
The additional financing for the West Africa Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (WARCIP) will strengthen the contribution to major projects launched in Togo to expand geographical coverage of broadband networks and reduce the costs of communications services. It will also facilitate the construction of the carrier-neutral colocation data center (Carrier Hotel), which will serve as a regional hub for the purchase and resale of international bandwidth capacity on Togo’s wholesale broadband market. ....

Improving Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Services in Nigeria

WASHINGTON, May 25, 2020 – The World Bank today approved the Nigeria Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene Program (SURWASH). The $700 million credit from the International Development Association (IDA) will provide 6 million people with basic drinking water services and 1.4 million people access to improved sanitation services. The program will deliver improved water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services to 2,000 schools and Health Care Facilities and assist 500 Communities to achieve open defecation free status. These will be implemented as part of the Government of Nigeria
National Action Plan (NAP) for the Revitalization of Nigeria’s Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene Sector. ....

FG Rolls out National Action Plan for Mercury, Solid Waste Management

In order to eliminate poisonous gaseous emission in the air, the Federal Government on Monday rolled out the National Action Plan (NAP) for the reduction and eventual elimination of mercury use in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector of the country.
The government also unveiled the national policy on solid waste management and national policy on plastics waste management.
The roll outs were done in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) with the presentation of Nigeria’s National Action Plan (NAP) on Mercury in the Artisanal and Small-scale Mining Sector (ASGM). ....

On 24 February 2021, the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) held an ambassadorial-level meeting on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) under the chairmanship of H.E. Mr. Mohamed Edrees, Chair of the PBC. The meeting aimed at exploring ways of further contributing to the implementation of Security Council resolutions 2250 (2015), 2419 (2018) and 2535 (2020) on YPS. The UN Envoy on Youth and PBSO briefed the Commission. Youth representatives from the Philippines and Nigeria shared their experiences in peacebuilding, and representatives of the respective Missions in New York presented national strategies and plans in support of YPS. ....
