ASURI seeks assent to national research innovation council bill

The Academic Staff Union of Research Institutes (ASURI) has called for speedy assent to the National Research and Innovation Council Bill.
The bill, the union argued, can produce nobel laureates, and would also be instrumental to funding and coordinating research in the country.
The General-Secretary, ASURI, Theophilus Ndubuaku, stated this in Lagos, at the unveiling of the committee for the 2021 Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) scientific conference coming up in November.
Ndubuaku said if there is sufficient funding for research, institutes would be able to convert natural resources into wealth.He said there would be the availability of technology for industrial production, which would, in turn, create massive jobs. He noted that the whole blueprint was ready but what is needed is proper funding. ....

1 in 5 persons infected with COVID-19 in Lagos, 2 others — Survey

No less than 1 in 5 individuals in Lagos, Enugu, and the Nasarawa States have ever been infected with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus), even as more Nigerians are still at risk, according to findings of COVID-19 Household Seroprevalence Surveys in Four States of Nigeria.
The surveys were conducted by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research, NIMR, and their partners, between September and October 2020.
They were designed to improve the estimated burden of COVID-19 infection in the country and provide a more detailed estimate of the extent of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19. ....
