COVID-19 Result: NIMR conducts investigation following TVC's report


Two persons involved in the sale of covid-19 test results at the drive-through testing centre in Lagos have been arrested.
The arrest was made after the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research Conducted an in-house investigation following a report on how impatient Nigerians try to get a Covid-19 test result without showing up at the center thereby making a mockery of testing for COVID in Lagos.

It took everyone by storm, not even the world powers saw it coming nor were they prepared for it. From Wuhan, the commercial city of China, the virus struck the world from one end to the other, spreading fear, agony and lamentation among families of victims. The reality of the virus and its fearsome impact came to Nigeria on February 26 when a young Italian on a business trip to Abeokuta, in Ogun State, landed with the disease in Lagos. ....

Lagos State Government, yesterday, dismissed insinuation of plans to impose a second lockdown on the state, describing it as baseless and untrue.
This came as the state special task force on COVID-19 shut Cubana nightclub, Ikeja GRA, and other facilities for defying the state’s COVID-19 guidelines.
The state government made the explanation in the wake of reported panic buying of foodstuff and other household items by residents, following widespread rumour of re-imposition of lockdown by the state government any moment from this week. ....

Lagos State Government on Sunday dispelled widespread rumour of plans to reimpose lockdown in the state, describing it as baseless, untrue.
This came following panic buying of foodstuff and other household items by residents as a result of viral rumour of reimposition of lockdown by the state government any moment from this week.
Also, recall that Sanwo-Olu, had last Friday, read the riot acts banning carnivals, concerts, and street parties until further notice, following the increase in coronavirus cases in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, in a statement, also returned the restriction that in places of worship in the state, no gathering must exceed 50 per cent of the maximum capacity of the venue. ....

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the COVID-19 era offers opportunity for Nigeria and the United Kingdom to adopt innovative ways of addressing their challenges.
He gave the charge when he received a UK delegation, led by the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Helen Grant, during a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Their discussion centred on improving relations between the two nations across different sectors, especially in the post-Brexit period.
Osinbajo said: “I am really excited about the prospect of what the next few months and years hold for our two countries. I also share your optimism that this is probably the best opportunity for us to do a lot. And to do so in a manner that will make a great difference for our two countries.” ....
