Courtesy Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury has confirmed a lineup of performers for their 2021 Hammers & High Heels Event, “A Night of Songs & Stories” featuring songwriters Brennen Leigh, Noel McKay and Tammy Rogers King. The virtual event will take place online on May 20 from 7-8 p.m. and will once again be emceed by Dawn Davenport, Emmy award-winning sports broadcaster and co-host of the 3HL radio show on 104.5 The Zone. The online event will start on May 10 with an online auction, a wine drawing sponsored by Arrington Vineyards and a social media photo contest showing off their favorite high heel or hammer. The winners will be announced on May 20 as the organization hosts a virtual program and songwriters’ night to benefit its Annual Women Build. ....
Melissa Carper Aisha Golliher Leaving behind a landscape of shuttered venues, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Melissa Carper and her partner/bandmate Rebecca Patek, both of Sad Daddy and Buffalo Gals, fled Nashville in September of 2020 for more modest digs on a vegetable farm in Texas. There, the pair of sometimes-Arkansans have weathered the last several months of the pandemic and last month’s record-breaking snowstorm playing outdoor venues when and where they can, tending to vegetables and creating the likes of “Daddy’s Country Gold,” out March 19. The album is real deal country music, the kind that dabbles freely in blues and jazz and swing, and it funnels every ounce of charm and honeysuckle that Carper lends to her ensemble work and amplifies it exponentially with the help of both seasoned and up-and-coming Nashville players like Chris Scruggs, Lloyd Green, Brennen Leigh and Sierra Farrell. His new album, Haul These Blues Away, out today, features compositions that are as much short-story sketches as they are songs, each populated – like the locales that inspire them – with those among us who have few choices. On Haul These Blues Away, Flory’s sound evokes voices not much heard on radio airwaves, a stew of early country, gospel, and the best of classic Nashville.
