Famed Voice on Substance Use Chris Herren Speaks Via Virtual Event on February 10th
The Community Fund of Darien and eight local partners invite students and parents to the must-see presentation “Changing the Conversation on Substance Use” with Chris Herren, celebrated former professional basketball star and wellness advocate, on Wednesday, February 10th at 7:00pm. Herren will take the audience on his journey from addiction to sobriety, sharing experiences that have impacted his life as a teenager, athlete and speaker. He will also address themes of gateway drugs, prescription drug use, vaping, the impact of COVID-19 and the responsibility of prevention starting with us all. ....

Darien churches will offer adaptive services for Christmas this year.
Christ Community Church will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service, 5 p.m. Visit christcommunityct.org for more information.

Person-to-Person grateful for donations during tough year
To the Editor:
Thanksgiving this year looked very different without extended family and friends at the table. Record numbers of our neighbors, almost a quarter of all Connecticut residents, are struggling to put food on the table. The need has never been greater, and our community rose to the challenge during this extraordinary November by sharing the harvest: an act that epitomizes the Thanksgiving tradition of expressing gratitude.
Person-to-Person (P2P) wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who shared their bounty with others, particularly during this very difficult time for those we serve. The Connecticut Food Bank, Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, Walter Stewart Markets, families of Hindley Elementary School and Stew Leonard’s provided an additional 500 turkeys, allowing P2P to feed over 1,000 Fai ....

Donations to the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) through Sunday Dec. 20 will be matched dollar for dollar by Wilton retailer Outdoor Sports Center, according to a press release. A popular source for cold weather clothing, hiking boots, bikes, and other such items, Outdoor Sports Center’s 80 Danbury Rd. location is a short distance away from NRVT’s Route 7/Wolfpit Road trailhead.
“We are so pleased that our friends at Outdoor Sports Center in Wilton are supporting new miles of the NRVT. This year, COVID showed us how important it is to get outside, and now there are many new fans of the trail,” NRVT Executive Director Beth Merrill said. “Donating to the NRVT is a gift that comes back to you in the form of new trail to explore and enjoy.” ....
