Humboldt Park activists, elected officials say city must help Latino communities get more vaccinations

Community groups and elected leaders are raising the alarm on what they say has been a botched COVID-19 vaccine rollout that hasn’t done enough to help residents of Humboldt Park and other Latino-majority communities in Chicago.
Jessie Fuentes, co-chair of the Puerto Rican Agenda, one of the activist organizations, said at a virtual news conference Wednesday they understand supplies are limited, but still insisted the city must act now to ensure those needing the vaccine are actually getting it. Those in the Latino and Black communities who are eligible for the shot should get priority, Fuentes said, especially since the groups have more COVID-19 cases. ....

NORWEGIAN AMERICAN LATEST SAFETY NET TO GET A NEW NAME: Norwegian American Hospital is the latest Chicago safety net to adopt a new name as the hospital industry evolves beyond inpatient care. The 200-bed hospital will be renamed Humboldt Park Health to better reflect the majority Puerto Rican and Mexican community it serves and will focus on building relationships beyond the hospital walls.
The rebranding effort follows last month’s renaming of safety net Sinai Health System to Sinai Chicago, which has launched a $40 million outpatient center across the street from Mount Sinai Hospital.
